Cookies

A plain-English explanation of the cookies HomeReady sets, what they're for, and how to manage them.

Last updated: 21 April 2026

Quick summary

  • HomeReady only uses cookies that are strictly necessary to run the site.
  • We don’t use cookies for advertising, profiling, or third-party tracking.
  • Signed-in users have a small set of product events sent to PostHog (EU), with no cookies or local storage.
  • Keeping you signed in is the main reason cookies are set.
  • Payments use Stripe; a short-lived Stripe cookie is set during checkout.
  • You can clear or block cookies in your browser, but logging in won’t work without them.
  • If we ever add non-essential cookies, we’ll update this page and ask for consent first.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small piece of data a website stores in your browser. Cookies let a site remember things between page loads — on HomeReady they are used to keep you signed in and to complete secure payment checkout.

Some cookies are set by HomeReady, and some are set by other services we use to run the site (for example, Supabase for authentication or Stripe for payments).

Cookies HomeReady sets

Authentication (Supabase). When you log in, Supabase Auth sets a secure, HTTP-only cookie that identifies your session. Without it, the site can’t tell who you are, and you’d have to log in on every page. The cookie expires when you log out or when your session ends.

Payment checkout (Stripe). Stripe may set short-lived cookies on its checkout pages when you start a payment. These are controlled by Stripe and used to keep checkout secure. HomeReady doesn’t set or read these cookies directly.

Cookies HomeReady does NOT set

We don’t use Google Analytics, advertising or retargeting pixels, social-media tracking cookies, or fingerprinting techniques.

If this ever changes, this page will be updated and consent will be asked for before any non-essential cookie is used.

Product analytics for signed-in users

Once you are signed in, HomeReady uses PostHog (EU-hosted, in Frankfurt) to record a small set of product events — for example, opening the Buyer Planner, saving a calculator, or submitting a support request. This helps us understand which tools are useful and where the experience can be improved.

PostHog is configured to run in memory-only mode, which means it does not set cookies and does not write anything to your browser’s local or session storage. No analytics tracking runs on the site for visitors who are not signed in.

Events are linked to your account ID, not your email address, and we never send free-text notes (for example, the body of a support request) to PostHog.

Why we don’t show a cookie banner

HomeReady only uses strictly-necessary cookies. Under UK PECR and ICO guidance, strictly-necessary cookies are cookies that are essential to a service you have explicitly requested — for example, logging into your account or completing a payment you initiated.

The PostHog product analytics described above runs without setting any cookies or other persistent storage on your device, so it does not trigger PECR consent rules either.

Strictly-necessary cookies don’t require consent, which is why there’s no banner. A banner would be added if and when non-essential cookies (such as advertising) are introduced.

How to manage cookies in your browser

Most browsers let you view, clear, or block cookies from their settings: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge all have a Privacy or Cookies section where this is handled.

If you clear HomeReady’s cookies you will be logged out. If you block cookies entirely, you won’t be able to log in or complete a payment.

Third-party cookies

When you use Stripe’s payment checkout page, Stripe sets its own cookies under its own policy. You can read Stripe’s cookie policy at https://stripe.com/cookies-policy/legal.

HomeReady doesn’t use any other third-party cookies.

Changes to this page

This page will be reviewed and updated as HomeReady evolves. If we make material changes to which cookies are set, we’ll update this page before those changes take effect.
